Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes, formerly called adult-onset or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, is the most common form of diabetes. Approximately 90% of all people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. People can develop type 2 diabetes at any age, even during childhood.
This form of diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which cells in fat, muscle and liver tissue do not use insulin properly. People who are overweight and inactive are FAR more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Can I Get Life Insurance as a Diabetic?
You can get life insurance if you have Type 2 diabetes, providing your diabetes has been under control for a period of at least 6 to 12 months. You can also get life insurance if you are insulin dependent. Diabetics who have their diabetes under control may or may not be approved for life insurance coverage if they have additional contributing health risks, such as:
- Coronary heart disease
- High blood pressure which is not controlled
